Did Someone Say ‘Balm’ or ‘Bomb’!?

For the record we are talking about beard BALMS, however, this balm does have the explosive potential to take your beard to the next level!

Beard balm is simply a conditioner that helps your beard by:

  • Moisturizing
  • Conditioning (whatever that means)
  • Softening
  • Styling

Most beard balms are made out of shea butter or cocoa butter which helps with softening and moisturizing.

Butter in your beard? Sounds crazy, but just wait.

Because they are all butter-based, most of these beard balms are creamy and melt when you rub them into your hands

But some good things to look out for in your beard balms are sweet almond oil (which helps with boosting growth) and beeswax (which helps retain moisture).

Some balms use synthetic ingredients, but we recommend to stay away from those because we have seen them make your skin irritated and bumpy (eww).

The main culprit is petroleum jelly.

Ready for some good news? This beard balm can also be used as a skin moisturizer and can also be used to help shape other hair such as your sideburns.

But wait there’s more: Beard balm can actually help to make your beard look fuller for those of you with ‘patchier’ beards.

Why Is Oil Good for Your Car & Your Beard

A frequent oil change on your car helps to make sure everything is operating smoothly.

Similarly applying oil to your bear helps to make sure your beard is healthy, smooth and operating how YOU want it to.

Beard oil is well… oil, but it’s a special kind of oil that helps with the health of your skin by adding moisture.

Our skin (especially on our faces) is thin and more prone to irritation and dryness. If you see little white flakes on the surface of your skin, that is one indicator that your skin is dry.

Dry skin can be painful, but it also isn't how we like our brothers at Newmen to be looking. We want you guys to look better than ever.

A good, quality beard oil keeps our facial skin healthy and soft. Believe it or not, healthy skin can actually lead to healthier beard growth.

Added bonus: most of these beard oils also help to make your beard smell great. There are some wild beard oil scents ranging from ‘Pine Tar’ to ‘Dandelion’.

Anything to look out for in a beard oil?

Yes!

You want a beard oil with all-natural ingredients and you want to avoid fragrance oils.

These fragrance oils can have alcohol (good for the belly, not the beard) which can irritate your skin and dry it out.

So Who Is the Winner? Oil vs. Balm

The winner of this fight actually depends on you!

Beard balm consists of all the same types of oils that are in oil. That means that Balm and Oil both help with the health of your skin and hair.

Do you want a wild beard or a tamed beard?

The balm provides conditioning for your beard BUT also has the added benefit of providing hold.

For those of you with unruly beards and hair popping out left and right, beard balm could be your best friend to keep it neat, smooth and orderly.

Maybe you have a shorter beard OR a beard that behaves itself? In this case, beard oil could be better for you.

The oil includes all the same vitamins and nutrients that the balm has, BUT it does not affect the hold of your beard.

So if you don’t need that ‘beard-hold’ power, but still want the conditioning and health effects, beard oil is the way to go for you.

Here at Newmen, we want to make sure you are always looking your best, particularly when you’re deciding between beard oils and beard balms. After reading this we're confident that you will make the right choice.

Let’s make sure that when you walk in a room and people see your beard, you drop jaws and panties.

Stay bearded brothers.
